Description
The King Neptune statue is 12 feet tall and is part of the largest symbolic sundial in the world. It was installed in Shelter Cove Harbour in 1983. Neptune’s trident is the pointer used in the 26-foot-wide sundial. The statue was designed by Wayne Edwards and cast at the Seward Johnson Atelier, then located in Princeton, New Jersey. The King Neptune statue has become a symbol of The Hilton Head Island area. Many tourists are attracted by its fame.
More than 30 years ago, local sculptor Wayne Edwards approached the owners of palm Dunes Beach Resort with a four foot tall clay model and an ambitious idea. He conceived a larger than life statue of Neptune, whose trident would serve as a sundial. It was the tallest statue the sculptor had ever made, and he had no idea where it would live. Luckily, the 27 foot space overlooks Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina’s stunning Marina, which will prove to be the perfect location. King Neptune statue overlooks its domain and the beautiful entrance to the dock without worrying about surrounding buildings interfering with the sundial with shadows. The King Neptune statue was brought together with the help of collaboration, creativity and engineering — maybe even a little divine intervention. It is a symbol that celebrates the docks and celebrates hard work, honor and tradition. We also have many bronze statues for you to choose from, you can browse our product homepage to learn more.
